When you learn about history you often wonder….
Why didn’t anyone do anything?
We now have immediate access to just about everything one could want….via the internet.
I didn’t even know there was a Kony until a couple of weeks ago.
If you have no idea who he is or if you need a reminder…
Please take 30 minutes out of your day and watch this video…
And while you watch it remember…
This has been going on for over 20 years…
Help Invisible Children and me make Kony famous.
We need to keep him famous so our government will continue to offer support and guidance in his capture.
This is the last year… 2012….that Kony will remain free.
Here is a neat interactive that shows the total destruction along a quarter-mile stretch of Boulevard Jean-Jacques Dessalines, one of the main arteries in Port-au-Prince.
On Thursday there is a show on the Discovery channel that will discuss/explain just why this particular earthquake happened and why it was so destructive.

Green Trick or Treats
October 21, 9:21 PM
by Angele Sionna, Early Childhood Parenting Examiner
Green up the Halloween of all of the little trick or treaters who come to your house. Here are some eco-friendly ideas to pass out when little goblins and princesses come to your door next week:
Honey Sticks Buy honey sticks made by local bee farmers. These are only a good treat for kids over one year old. For more on honey sticks, read THIS story.
Organic Raisin Mini-boxes The Newman’s Own brand organic raisins are a good choice and are available at stores across the US. (See newmansownorganics.com for where to buy.)
Recycled Pencils A good kind to try, the Earthwrite pencils (.$0.92/dozen, amazon.com) made from 100% recycled materials.
Individually wrapped caffeine-free tea bags A good one to try – Captain Teao’s Tea For Kids ($5 for a pack of 20, teaforkids.com)
Mini-Soaps Try the delicous smelling ones from countrymeadowltd.com ($21.50 for a pack of 25 soaps). They’re eco-friendly and bio-degradable. These little soaps smell so great you could just use them for a room freshner around the house too. I’d only hand these out to kids big enough to know that yummy smells aren’t only for eating!
First thing in the am I had a hard time trying to decide…..shorts or jeans! Since Edmonds is down by the water and we have had several days of morning fog and cool temps. I opted for the jeans…..Bad Decision! The fog burned off quickly and the heat was on. Even though we were under a canopy we had shade only half of the time. Lucky for me (since I am blond and fair skinned) about the only thing that got sunburned was the top of my head!
This was Edmonds’ first green festival and I think it went very well. People were eager to learn more on how to live ‘green’ and reduce their impact on the planet. Word has it that it will be twice as big next year!
We did not have products available on-site for purchase but instead used this opportunity to hand out brochures and to educate people on buying recyclable and sustainable body products.
As a member of Sostane our booth consisted of fellow Sostane sisters.
Amy Woidtke of EcoKind Design was also there sharing the booth. Amy and Star Morris worked on our total rebranding (which isn’t entirely finished yet!) but Amy has since changed her business focus and now concentrates on being a green interior decorator and consultant!
Our booth was set up very nice thanks to Kaytlyn and Jessica!
Stay tuned for more blog posts this week regarding other fellow Sostane sisters and two very special people that I was again FINALLY able to meet in person!
For us this will be a promotional event. We will have products on display and will be handing out brochures with a special discount coupon and a free soap sample. We have also donated a gift for the signup raffle. We will not be selling products at this event.
Please come by and say hello!

Crooked Trails is a Seattle based non-profit, community based travel organization that helps people broaden their understanding of the planet and its diverse cultures through education, community development and responsible travel.
Crooked Trails along with other non-governmental organizations in the countries they work conduct a series of of travel programs in support of the indigenous people of Thailand, Kenya, Nepal, India, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. Throughout the year various trips to these destination are available.
Want to go to Kenya? You will stay in huts made from volcanic rock. You will help the Maassai make mud bricks for a school project. You will also explore the Amboseli National Park.
Snow Leopards strike your fancy? Try the Snow Leopard Expedition! You will live and work in the small mountain village of Gya-Mira. You will learn about the native Ladakh culture and hike with snow leopard researchers.
These trips are learning experiences…not fancy vacations. There will be no five star hotel waiting for you when you get off the plane.
I was telling my husband about Crooked Trails and what they offered and much to my suprise he said he would go on one of these trips.
Who knows….maybe sometime in the future you will see us in Thailand helping with daily chores and pounding/chaffing rice grown by the local villagers!
In support of Crooked Trails Country Meadow donated three gift baskets for the spring fundraiser auction being held on April 26, 2008 at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle.
