Update and Reintroduction to Milo….

A few months ago (with tears in my eyes) I posted here about Milo…..a local pit bull puppy that was abused and abandoned as well as having a physical disability. I watched the daily updates on his website to see how the donations were going as well as his healing process.

Then one day his website disappeared and I could not find any mention of Milo anywhere..so I removed my post. I felt funny promoting for donations when his site was no longer around…or so I thought.

I regret removing my original post as it appears that Milo’s website outgrew their free server (due to the huge response!) and they have since moved to a permanent domain.

Milo is doing great but he still needs donations in order to proceed with his surgery sometime this summer.

Please visit his site and read his story.

And please remember:

There are no bad dogs…Just bad people!

You can read about our own two bullies (bull terriers-which are not pit bulls but are a fighting breed like the pits) here!

Canines in Need…..Can You Help???

Are you sitting down….

Kleenex in hand….

Cause I’m going to break your heart….

but you CAN help….I promise!

I recieved an email (which I will post below) over the weekend from Kelly Buschmeyer of Cuddly Canines.

Cuddly Canines is a California based dog rescue that saves puppies and dogs from a kill shelter. Foster families house and treat (if necessary) the rescues so they can be re-adopted out to loving homes.

As any animal shelter can tell you money is tight….especially when animals come in that need medical treatment.

Cuddly Canines is having a silent auction and need your products or services to auction off to help raise money to care for these animals. If you don’t have a product or service I’m CERTAIN they would be delighted if you could donate money for their cause…..even $10.00 would  help ($10.00 x 10 people = $100.00!….Do a little fundraising among your friends!)

Country Meadow will be donating several products and product packages to the Cuddly Canine silent auction being held on August 25, 2007.

If you are in the La Habra Heights area of California or plan on making a trip near there please contact Cuddly  Canines……they have the cutest dogs/puppies that are in desparate need of loving homes.

July 13, 2007

Dear Friend:
I am writing on behalf of Cuddly Canines Rescue. Our group is a non-profit canine rescue group.  Our main goal is to save the lives of unwanted pregnant dogs and their litters, as well as abandoned dogs that are left at high volume shelters that would ultimately be euthanized.  All of these animals are raised in foster homes until they are healthy and reach an age that they can be adopted.  We need to raise funds to help pay for our substantial vet bills that we have accumulated and we are willing to work hard for these funds.
We need your help with our upcoming silent auction to benefit Cuddly Canines Rescue on August 25, 2007.  We need items we can offer as auction items. We would appreciate a donation of any amount.  Your donation will help us achieve our goal for this fundraiser, which is $18,000.00.
Your generous donation of tickets/merchandise will be publicly acknowledged at our event through promotional announcements and flyers.  We feel that you will benefit from the community goodwill generated by your kind donation to the rescue group.  To learn more about our group or event, please contact Jodi Samird or Kelly Buschmeyer of Cuddly Canines Rescue at (562) 365-1252 or (714)713-6257; or via email at k_buschmeyer (at) yahoo.com.
Thank you for your consideration of our request, and we look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Sincerely,
Kelly Buschmeyer

Local Animal Rescue Farm Saved….

Im such a softie for kids and animals….especially abused ones…
Local animal rescue farm is saved…. (< --check out the local news story)

From the Furrytale Farm website:

The Furrytale Farm. . .a place where old and unwanted animals can come and live out their days in peace and comfort. . .a place where abused and abandoned animals can learn to trust again and have a second chance at happily ever after. . .a place where neighs mingle with brays, where oinks are truly squeals of delight, and where woofs are welcoming. . .a place where kids learn to respect and value animals and learn in turn to respect and value themselves.

Now in its ninth year of operation, the farm is currently home to a wonderful bunch of horses, donkeys, goats, potbellied pigs, dogs, and cats. Tucked away in the middle of beautiful Bainbridge Island, Washington, where few other than the neighbors know it exists, half a dozen people are quietly making it happen every day.

The Furrytale Farm is a no-kill multi-species rescue facility that provides its residents with sound nutrition, complete medical care, and a comprehensive rehabilitation program. It features open societies for the equines who frolic with one another in their pastures, for the porcines who root happily side by side in their yard, and for the canines, who play together, eat together, sleep together, and share their home with the farm’s founder, Suzannah Sloan.

It was Sloan’s idea to end some of the misery and save part of the world when she bought the eight-acre sheep farm in 1998 and turned it into an animal sanctuary. Little did she know how much larger her world would become than those eight acres, as she now looks for both public and private funding to keep the farm going and continue the rescue work.

It was also Sloan’s concept to combine education with her rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Believing that preventing animal abuse is far preferable to treating it, the farm currently runs a number of programs aimed at persuading children from all over the Greater Seattle area that there are always alternatives to mistreating animals. So far, results indicate that it’s a win-win situation.

Each year, over one hundred animals are cared for at Furrytale. Each year, over two hundred children participate in the farm’s unique programs.

There are two kinds of animals that come to Furrytale. . .those who can be cured, healed, rehabilitated, and adopted to good homes, and those who can be cured, healed, rehabilitated, but have no other place to go, and so stay at the farm for the rest of their lives. Each has a face to remember, and a story to tell. We invite you to meet some of them, hear their stories, and then decide how you might be able to help.

How to Help:

Feed a Furrytale Animal – options to purchase much needed food and supplies – all used at the farm for the abused animals.
Sponsor a Furrytale Animal – options to sponsor a specific animal for one year

Get that warm fuzzy feeling and do a good deed at the same time….

Check out the Fuzzytales Farm and help feed a goat, or dog or horse or pig.

Hope for Horses

Im going to let excerpts from this article on our local tv station website speak for itself:

Animal control officers swooped down on a farm to rescue starving and sick horses Wednesday. The owners reportedly were warned this might happen and did nothing to help the animals.

“It’s heartbreaking,” said horse rescuer Carol Tover.

Rescue volunteers with the group “Hope for Horses” were saddened by what they saw as they arrived at the small farm southeast of Graham.

Pierce County Animal Control says it received complaints from neighbors who feared for the welfare of the four horses and the five mini horses. There were six of the minis but rescuers didn’t get here in time. One of the little guys died over the weekend.

The animal specialists say the horses are severely malnourished and hadn’t been given any veterinary care.

“They’re probably 250-300 pounds underweight,” said Jenny Edwards of Hope for Horses. “Sometimes those horses don’t make it because at that point, they’ve already started consuming the muscle mass and it may be very difficult to bring them back.”

The sheriff’s office says it had been out here several months ago to warn the horse owners that this could happen if nothing was done to help the animals. Deputies say nothing was done, so they moved in.

“They’re not in good shape, but they will be and they’ll get good homes,” said Debby Nilsen of Hope for Horses. “No animal should be treated like this.”

Deputies say the horse stalls and trailers on the property were stuffed with garbage. They found hay in the storage lofts, enough to feed all of the horses, but it had grown moldy.

The owners stayed in their home and didn’t come out to give their explanation of the conditions of the horses. The Pierce County prosecutor now has to decide if animal cruelty charges will be filed.

This is just part of the effort to bring these animals back to health. Now the journey begins to save their lives.

I cannot say anything about this case without being emotional as horses have always been dear to my heart.

We have chosen Hope for Horses as our first non-profit charity that we will be making regular donations to.

Please visit their website and if you can make a donation.
It takes an average of of 3-6 months to rehabilitate each horse at a cost of $350.00 per month per horse.
They also have a Wish List and would appreciate anything that you could spare.

Thank you.
