Historical Elegance, Celtic History and a Wonderful Evening….
I have always loved Celtic music (could be due to that little bit if Irish blood flowing through my veins!) and for years wanted to attend a Riverdance performance. Tickets were always hard to come by…by the time I knew they were coming to town all of their shows were sold out.
Imagine my suprise (and enormous delight) during Christmas this year as I opened up one of my ‘stocking stuffers’ and found four tickets to a Riverdance performance (my husband is the best!)! Not only were he and I going but he was able to coordinate a night with our two adult daughters so we could all go.
Last night was THE night.
It was held at the Paramount Theater in Seattle. I vaguely remember, years ago, that this old theater was closed and remodeled but little else. I had no idea of the history nor the grand elegance this theater once was. Years of use and neglect nearly doomed this grand building and I believe it would not stand today if not for Ida Cole.
Walking into the theater was like walking back in time. I was awestruck at the elegant detail of the entire theater…from the huge glass chandeliers to the detailed, ornate plaster relief that seems to cover everything. I had no problem occupying my time while waiting for the show to start!
And what a show! It was all that I had expected it to be….
Rhythm, dance and colorful clothing that lasted close to two hours. It is simply amazing to watch such talented people dance and perform to such beautiful music…it will certainly get your foot to tapping! If Riverdance comes to your city I strongly suggest you go. If you like Celtic music, dance and a bit of history (for Riverdance tells a story) then you will not be dissapointed.
We had a wonderful evening….
We saw a great performance by a great dance troupe in one of Seattle’s great restored historic buildings….
and I went to bed with Celtic music and the tap, tap, tapping of dance in my head…
not a bad way to fall asleep if I don’t say so myself!
